Falmouth University needs to collect and store the personal information requested in the form in order to process, assess and support your application.

What information do I need to give?

Your personal details that are needed to process your application and identify you.

Additionally, the following information that we are legally required to collect:

If you have ever been in care
If your parents or guardians have higher education qualifications

Why do you need more than just my contact details and qualifications?

We need information about any disability you have, in order to effectively support you and make accessibility arrangements.

We are also legally obligated to collect certain information, on ethnic origin, relevant criminal convictions, whether you have been in care and if your parents attended higher education, for our external reporting duties.

Where will my information be stored?

Your information will be stored within University systems which are all located within the European Economic Area.

Applications with partner organisations

If you are applying to study with one of our partner organisations, your personal information will be shared with them for the purposes of processing your application and administering your studies.

Please be aware that your personal information may be stored in secure databases outside of the EEA by these partner organisations. Where this is the case, your personal information will be protected either by an 'adequacy decision' by the European Commission (declaring the recipient country as a 'safe' territory for personal data) or by standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission (which give obligations for the recipient to safeguard the data). Who will be able to see my information?

Falmouth University, who are responsible for your information (as the 'data controller').

Additionally, your data will be shared with trusted third parties*, for example in the provision of campus services such as IT Services, Student Services, Accommodation, or other software providers in support of your application.

*Where it is necessary to share your information outside the University, we have security measures in place to ensure your privacy is not affected.

How long will my information be kept?

If you go on to be a student at the University, your information will be used to create your full student record. Information on this and how long the record is kept can be found here. Some information from your student record is kept permanently so that we can always confirm the qualification(s) gained.

If you submit an application but do not become an enrolled student, your personal information will be deleted after five years.

If you set up a user account but do not submit a full application, your personal information will be deleted after the end of the current application cycle, e.g.:

We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:

a few areas contain text with a low contrast ratio between foreground and background colours

some content contains links with inappropriate (e.g. “click here”) or no text
there are elements where assistive code practices have been used incorrectly or not filled out appropriately

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

MyFalmouth uses the SITS e:Vision platform which is developed and supplied by Tribal. As such, some development-related accessibility issues are out of our immediate control, but we will strive to work with Tribal in order to fix any issues that we cannot solve.

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Contrast issues - WCAG 1.4.3

Some text on various pages has a low contrast ratio between the text and the background colour. Most of these issues are icons used in table headers, and when actively focused/hovered the contrast changes.

We are actively working to address any contrast issues, and intend to fix these over the course of this year with the next few releases of the system.

Links without appropriate text - WCAG 2.4.4, 2.4.9

There are instances where the HTML for links is still output into the codebase despite there being no text associated with it. We are actively looking into these issues and trying to find instances of this occurring, although it is still a manual process. We hope to address all instances within the next year.

Headings - WCAG 2.4.3, 2.4.6

Some of the content on pages and documents does not adhere to a typical heading hierarchy or is missing a first level heading, so the structure and layout of sections may be confusing to those with assisted devices or tools.

This is being manually addressed through amending created content, and adjusting page template structure.

Form labels - WCAG 2.4.6

Some form inputs have been identified to not have an associated label. Although they may be positioned on the page in correct alignment, this still causes issues to those with visual impairments or using assistive technology.

This will be looked at and fixes deployed within the next year, with other updates to the system.

ARIA issues - WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2

Where possible, ARIA tags have been included in the majority of pages to help with assistive technologies. In some instances however, they have not been used correctly and are missing required attributes, or have incorrect attributes. We are currently in the process of identifying all occurrences of these components, and investigating whether it can be fixed manually by us, or needs further investigation by the Tribal team. We hope to have a resolution within the next year.

Images without a description - WCAG 1.1.1, 1.4.5

Some images do not have a description or text alternative. These instances are mainly where icons have been used initially as decorative, but on review still convey meaning so need to be updated appropriately. These issues are in the process of being addressed, either removed or fixed with alt text, and will be updated along with other system updates over the next year.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was first prepared on 12/08/2019. It was last reviewed on 15/11/2023.

This website was last tested on 15/11/2023. The test was carried out by Falmouth University.

In order to test the website, a selection of pages were identified that would best indicate the accessibility of MyFalmouth as a whole. This included: staff pages, current student pages, applicant pages and enrolment. Multiple pages in each area were reviewed using Deque aXe DevTools, manually testing the various issues listed above were highlighted.
